10-MW for Arizona

By Kathie Zipp | January 12, 2011

A wind farm is planned for Arizona that will be comprised of five 2-MW turbines. The Gamesa G90 units will have 78-m towers and be installed in April.  The turbine manufacturer will supply a total of 10 MW of capacity for the wind farm, which will be developed by Western Wind Energy Corporation. The power from the project will be sold to UniSource Electric Inc.

The Gamesa G90 2-MW turbine feature remote monitoring and control systems with Web access.

Western Wind Energy Corp. is using funds from the Section 1603 Program to partially fund the construction of the farm. This program, created as part of the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) that was enacted in February 2009, provides an optional cash payment for developers in lieu of a 30% investment tax credit (ITC) and production tax credit (PTC).
