Heavy plate rollers headed to Russia

By Paul Dvorak | July 23, 2012

It took 17 trucks to ship Davi’s largest yet plate rollers to a customer in Russia.

A manufacturer says that after a thorough commissioning with positive results, the heaviest 4-roll plate rollers ever built, (a DAVI 4,000 x 255 mm) has been loaded on 17 trucks for delivery to their new home at the buyer site. The customer, one of the largest Russian manufacturer of heavy fabrication, is anxious to put the machine into operation, to start the production of heavy-duty vessels for the nuclear industry and offshore applications.

“The front and rear frames, as well as rolls of the machines are the heaviest parts of these plate rollers. They are made of high-tensile material to resist the 6,500-ton loads needed to roll the heavy plates for which the machines have been purchased,” said company president Orazio Davi. “They are so oversized –large and heavy – they require transport on special trucks, one for each 80-ton component.”

A team of riggers ensured the load of all the seventeen trucks required to transport the entire machine. Nine of them where special oversized trucks needed for an on-time delivery.
