Construction has begun on Invenergy Wind’s (“Invenergy”) California Ridge Wind project in Illinois’ Vermilion and Champaign counties. The 200-MW farm will consist of 134 GE 1.6 -100 turbines.
California Ridge will be White Construction’s tenth wind project in Illinois. Mobilization started in late October, and is scheduled for completion in November of 2012. As the EPC contractor, White Construction will construct all access roads as well as modifications to existing public roads, design and build all foundations, collection systems and erection of the wind turbines.
“White Construction is pleased to be selected by Invenergy for this important wind energy project,” said Chris Hanson, Senior Vice President of Operations for White Construction. “We look forward to working with local vendors, contractors, craft labor, and community leaders toward a safe, productive, and successful project.”
“White is a highly-qualified wind energy contractor, and we’re pleased to work with them on this project, one of our largest here in Illinois,” said Dan Ewan, Vice President of Construction at Chicago-based Invenergy, the nation’s largest independent wind generation company. “We look forward to a successful relationship as we expand our wind portfolio in our home state.”
“We’re excited about the forward momentum from Invenergy’s California Ridge wind farm project, and especially pleased to see a local contractor be awarded the project,” said Linda Bolton, Director of Business Development and Government Relations at Vermilion Advantage, an organization dedicated to the economic growth of Vermilion County. “This project will create approximately 250 construction jobs and Vermilion County will benefit tremendously from the economic impact of the farm.”
