SNC-Lavalin says it has been selected as the preferred contractor for the Stockyard Hill Wind Farm in Victoria, Australia by Goldwind Australia and has commenced early works.
SNC-Lavalin, in a joint venture with WBHO Infrastructure Pty Ltd. (WBHO), will undertake the engineering design, procurement, and construction of all electrical infrastructure on the project in addition to site-wide infrastructure civil works; access roads, hardstands, foundations, public road upgrades, and internal access roads.
“It is a privilege to be supporting Goldwind on the Stockyard Hill Wind Farm project poised to be the largest wind farm in the Southern Hemisphere,” said Marie-Claude Dumas, President, Clean Power. “SNC-Lavalin looks forward to delivering a renewables energy legacy of this magnitude that everyone can be proud of for generations to come.”
The Stockyard Hill Wind Farm (SHWF), when completed, is expected to be the largest wind farm in the Southern Hemisphere generating approximately 530MW of clean energy. It will comprise 149 Goldwind 3.57MW wind turbines erected on 100m high steel towers. Located approximately 35km west of Ballarat in Victoria’s central highlands, the SHWF will provide substantial environmental, community and economic benefits, with the potential to power more than 340,000 homes annually.
Goldwind Australia Vice-President of Program John Gardner stated “We are very pleased to draw on SNC-Lavalin’s global capabilities in energy infrastructure to support the Stockyard Hill project. In partnership with WBHO, the project is rapidly building a solid reputation in the sector, we are confident that we have the right team for a successful project.”
The electrical scope comprises 3 x 33/132kV collector substations, a 33kV switching station, full cable trenching and reticulation of approximately 130km of underground 33kV cable, 11km of 33kV overhead transmission line, protection and control, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and telecoms systems design, procurement, and installation.
“Combined with our cross-sector capabilities, we’ve brought together a dedicated and talented team of partners (WBHO) and individuals with an unparalleled depth of experience in the Australian renewable energy sector,” said Rob Grant, Senior Vice-President, Power, Asia Pacific.“The project, which will be in the top 10 globally in size, will be iconic for the Australian renewable energy industry and all those involved in making the project a success to date. In addition, it demonstrates the trust that Goldwind, the world’s third largest wind turbine manufacturer, has in SNC-Lavalin’s and WBHO’s global capability to deliver projects of this scale and complexity. We look forward to the successful delivery of Stockyard Hill.”
