A wake dynamics study to consider

By Paul Dvorak | August 11, 2009

A Quad Array

A Quad Array

Turbine developer Greenward Technologies has opened an invitation for others to participate in a joint program that will study potential benefits of the company’s Wake Convergence and Swirl Cancellation hypothesis using its patent-pending Quad Array design.

Company CTO and president Ed Salter says he will consider applications from universities, and interested governmental and non-governmental organizations worldwide. The program is intended to validate and quantify the potential benefits of the hypothesis, and expand the existing knowledge base regarding the wake effects of wind turbines. The program will include wind tunnel testing of the company’s 1.0-m scale model Quad Array, (video here) CFD, other analyses, field testing, as well as studying ways to enhance the effect.

Apply by sending an email to ed.salter@greenward-technologies.com. Please briefly outline the areas of your organization’s capabilities, available grants and funding sources, experience with related programs, and if you are interested in being considered for the role of Program Manager. We expect to finalize selections by September 15, 2009.
