ACCIONA wins AWEA’s top awards for safety & operations

By Michelle Froese | February 28, 2018

ACCIONA Energy, a global operator of renewable energy projects, has received the AWEA Safety and Health Achievement Gold Award and the Operations in Excellence Award for its wind farms in the U.S.

Award

ACCIONA Energy says it employs the same health and safety standards at more than 9,000 MW of renewable energy projects in 20 countries.

The Safety and Health Gold Achievement award is AWEA’s highest level of safety recognition and acknowledges that safety is an essential principle of ACCIONA’s business. The Operations in Excellence Award recognizes excellence in the effective operation of wind farms.

ACCIONA’s rigorous health and safety program has enabled the company to earn OHSAS 18001 certification and an excellent safety record at all its U.S. wind projects.  The company has also developed a Wind Technician Training & Qualification Program to improve the knowledge and skills of its technicians.

The awards also recognize ACCIONA’s leadership in promoting best practices to the broader wind industry.  ACCIONA’s operations team is engaged with AWEA in developing industry-wide standards for workforce qualifications, veterans transition and training, emergency response plans, contractor safety and other topics.

“Health, safety, and effective operations at our renewable energy plants are key values for ACCIONA. Every member of our team deserves credit for these awards,” said Rafael Esteban, CEO of ACCIONA Energy USA Global LLC “This honor motivates us to continue working to strengthen our safety culture.”

ACCIONA Energy has made safety and quality its top priority not just in the U.S., but across its global operations. The company employs the same health and safety standards at more than 9,000 MW of renewable energy projects in 20 countries.
