A fiber optic encoder for on or offshore

By Kathie Zipp | June 6, 2011

The SCH94FO offers the option of either red light transmission (transmission distance of 250 m) or infrared light transmission (transmission distance of up to 2000 m).

Denmark-based Scancon, a manufacturer of encoders, has introduced a fiber optic encoder for use with wind turbine generators. The Scancon SCH94FO is a heavy-duty encoder offering both incremental and fiber optic output and is ideal for those applications requiring safe signal transmission over long distances.

The encoder incorporates the features of the company’s SCH94 hollow shaft encoder with the high transmission distance and noise resistant qualities of fiber optics. The encoder protects against signal disruption by electrical disturbances often encountered during wind turbine operation. The encoder provides an added safety feature by utilizing two redundant fibers.
