Aquila Capital acquires two German wind parks

By Michelle Froese | September 14, 2016

The acquisition will further strengthen Aquila Capital’s wind energy portfolio to give it an installed capacity over around 720 MW.

This acquisition will further strengthen Aquila Capital’s wind energy portfolio and give it an installed capacity over around 720 MW.

Aquila Capital announced that it acquired two operational wind parks in Germany. The acquisitions increase Aquila Capital’s wind energy portfolio to an installed capacity of approximately 720 MW.

The wind parks have an installed capacity of 34 MW and 46 MW respectively, making them comparatively large assets within the German wind market. The wind parks will be managed by Aquila Capital’s dedicated asset management team.

“We are delighted to have acquired these attractive projects,” said Boris Beltermann, Head of Solar & Wind at Aquila Capital. “Their significant size in combination with a stable feed-in tariff will contribute to and further diversify our investors’ portfolios.”

The wind turbines, which are located in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Brandenburg, were acquired by Aquila Capital from one of Germany’s largest project developers. The wind parks were connected to the grid at the end of 2014, and since then have been generating electricity benefiting from a guaranteed feed-in tariff for a period of 20 years.

“There is strong demand from professional investors for wind projects at attractive sites with good wind resources,” said Michaela von Grafenstein, Investment Head Real Asset Group at Aquila Capital. “The acquisition of these parks highlights Aquila Capital’s expertise in identifying and realizing attractive investment opportunities in a highly competitive market such as Germany.”
