Kevin Alewine, Director of Renewable Energy Services with Shermco Industries, tells of a new AWEA publication of about 50 recommended practices for operation-and-maintenance crews. The practices are a contribution from a group of nearly 300 volunteers and are aimed at, for instance, new people in the wind industry, managers coming from other energy industries, and educational and training institutes.
“These standard recommended practices are based on a consensus of what the industry is doing,” says Alewine. The document covers all basic aspects of wind farm management and turbine. Its eight areas will cover gearbox maintenance, normal generator maintenance, rotors and blades, tower and their internals, what to look for during end of warranty inspections, balance of plant, data reporting, and condition monitoring. Alewine tells where to find the draft.
