- €68.3 million turnover: at a good level of stability
- Company reinvested 20% in in-house research
- Control systems for digitalization of industrial installations and energy grids in greatest demand
The 2016 business year almost entered the annals of automation technology manufacturer Bachmann Electronic. With €68.3 million, the turnover was only just below the previous record of 70.4 million. The electronic control units, 100% manufactured in the Austrian plant, are marketed worldwide, whereby sales during the past business year have developed particularly well in Europe and India. The products are sold mainly to customers in the mechanical engineering and energy industries. “My business expectations are also positive for the medium and long term. The need for automation solutions is increasing due to the progressive digitalisation of the industry and also to the global shift to energy supply from renewable sources”, says managing director Bernhard Zangerl. And current political changes, like the election of President Trump in the USA, are not going to impact on this either.
The top seller: Control module for grid stability
20% of the turnover made by Bachmann Electronic has been reinvested in in-house research. This practice is crucial for the successful improvement and innovation of the whole range of products. The greatest demand has been for modular control units for grid measurement and protection. They are used in the coupling of power generation plants to the grid or to connect them up to smart grids. Energy producers can thus meet the increasing demands that grid operators make with regard to the stability of the power grids. The market gave a positive reception to the cloud-based ‘atvise Portal’ software for the storage and analysis of process data.
The employees make the difference
Technology supplier Bachmann also booked a significant plus in terms of its core strategic resource, its employees. The number of employees increased by 5%, bringing the total number of employees worldwide to 459. Zangerl is convinced that “competent and committed skilled employees are a visible key
factor in gaining the edge over the global competition. If we want to attract and bond such people to us we have to be able to provide an attractive work environment and interesting tasks in future-oriented areas.”
