Bankend Rig wind farm located in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, has now commenced energy generation. The wind farm, which comprises 11 Siemens 1.3MW turbines, began feeding clean energy into the grid on March 27.
International renewable energy consultancy, SgurrEnergy, part of Wood Group, has been working on the Bankend Rig project since early 2012 and has supported project owner, Wilson Renewables, from the initial planning approval, through construction to the anticipated plant take over.
SgurrEnergy has provided a wide range of services throughout the project duration including wind regime and energy yield analysis, concept design evaluation, access evaluation, ground investigation, contract support, and grid connection support.
The Glasgow-based company was appointed operational manager for Bankend Rig wind farm in March this year and will oversee all maintenance activities during the first three years of the wind farm’s operational phase.
It is estimated that Bankend Rig wind farm will produce 33GWh of electricity each year.
