The 30,000-MW milestone includes more than 15,900 turbines and about 900 miles of installed transmission lines.
Blattner Energy, a power-generation contractor and leading provider of renewable energy construction in North America, recently announced that it has more than 30,000 MW of wind power installed or under contract across North America. This accounts for approximately a third of all installed wind power capacity in the United States and Canada.
Blattner shares this milestone with the entire wind-power industry. According to the American Wind Energy Association, wind power was the number one source of new electric generation capacity, capturing 41% of all new power plant installations in 2015.
“This is an unprecedented EPC milestone, and we thank our valued employees, clients and vendors for helping us achieve this accomplishment,” said Doug Fredrickson, vice president of Blattner Energy. “This milestone represents the efforts of many who help create a sustainable industry and the benefits wind energy offers like job creation, green energy and the other economic benefits to communities.”
This milestone is supported by the wind-power portfolio of Blattner, its sister company, D.H. Blattner & Sons, Inc., and Canadian joint-venture operation, Borea Construction, ULC. The Blattner Family of Companies has built more than 250 wind projects since 2001, including the six single-largest wind farms in the United States. The 30,000 MW milestone also includes:
- More than 15,900 turbines installed
- More than 5,000 miles of turbine access roads constructed
- Approximately 900 miles of transmission line installed
- More than 100 substations ranging from 69 to 500 kV
