Blattner Energy celebrates 110th anniversary marked with industry-first milestones

By Michelle Froese | September 13, 2017

Blattner Energy, an installer of renewable energy, is celebrating its 110th anniversary marked with industry-first milestones and company achievements. Blattner says that reaching 110 years in business is a testament to the vision of the past and current leaders of the company, as well as the company values, the dedication of employees, and the strength of the family business.

Blattner 110 years

Blattner Energy reflects on its 110th anniversary by looking back at some industry-first milestones.

“None of this would be possible without our remarkable employees who do an exceptional job of living out the company culture,” remarked Scott Blattner, President of Blattner Energy. “From leadership to front line employees who show care and concern for each other to the teamwork and collaborative relationships that are a part of every day at Blattner, the Blattner culture is unique especially for the construction industry.”

Milestone Achievements

  • Number one in U.S. and Canada wind energy installation (one-third of all installed wind power capacity in North America to date).
  • Ranked number one in U.S. solar by two independent firms, IHS Markit and Solar Power World’s Top 500 Solar Contractor (Top Utility Solar Contractor, Top Solar EPC, and Top Overall Solar Contractor).
  • Five gigawatts of renewable energy installed in 2016 (nearly four percent of all wind and solar in the world).
  • From a corporate office with a couple hundred employees to 4,000 dedicated employees across North American, job growth has fueled the expansion of Blattner’s workforce and the footprint of its headquarters, which has been proudly located in the Central Minnesota since 1907.

“The milestone achievements and innovation of Blattner have helped advance the industries we work in and provided for more opportunities in solar and wind energy,” said Ken Hilgert, Vice President of Business Development of Blattner Energy. “We believe we have a responsibility to advocate for these markets and the ingenuity to be continually improving our company.”

The industries Blattner has served over the years have changed and their services have adapted and grown, but the company’s commitment to superior projects and client satisfaction has always been a driving force.

Founded by David H. Blattner, the Blattner Family of Companies was established as D.H. Blattner & Co. Railway Contractors in 1907. He cultured lasting relationships by delivering consistent results—a business philosophy cornerstone that has continued throughout the generations of the company. In 2009, Blattner Energy was established to reflect the company’s strategic direction into the energy market and is now one of North America’s leading installer of renewable energy.

“Blattner has a deep sense of community here, and it’s not just someplace we work,” added Hilgert. “Our employees have a lot of pride in working for Blattner and the difference they get to make within the walls of the organization as well as out in our communities.”

There are multiple ongoing corporate giveback initiatives put on by Blattner within the local communities, such as food drives, holiday toy and clothing drives, community facilities, and other events that have raised tens of thousands of dollars annually through monetary and item donations. One of the more notable donations was a $5 million dollar donation to the Albany Area Schools and Community Center for their expansion and upgrades.

Blattner is marking its 110 year anniversary with an employee celebration at all project sites and the corporate office.
