Boralex’s Port Ryerse Wind Farm now up & running in Ontario

By Michelle Froese | January 31, 2017

Boralex Inc. has announced the commercial operation of the 10-MW Port Ryerse Wind Farm in Ontario, Canada. Representing an investment of slightly over $37 million, the project consists of four Siemens’ SWT 3.0 113 wind turbines and is endowed with a 20-year power purchase agreement with Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO).

Port Ryerse Wind was constructed in response to the Government of Ontario’s initiative to promote and develop more renewable electricity in the province.

“After the recent acquisition and commissioning of a 230-MW wind farm project in Ontario, Port Ryerse is another great achievement that strengthens our position in the Ontarian market — bringing us closer to our goal to reach 2 000 MW by 2020,” said Patrick Lemaire, President and CEO of Boralex.

The project construction created about 50 jobs during construction. It will supply electricity to nearly 1,965 people every year during its operation period and avoid about 12,200 tons of CO² emissions.

Port Ryerse Wind is located on privately owned lands east of the hamlet of Port Ryerse in Norfolk County, Ontario.

“I am very proud of the remarkable work of our teams which allowed us to deliver the project on time and on budget,” added Lemaire.
