Alberta Government has given a mandate to develop and implement a renewable electricity incentive program.
The Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA) is pleased that the Alberta Government is moving quickly to act on its new renewable energy objectives.
The Government recently committed to launching a competitive process to procure new renewable energy before the end of 2016, with a view to having projects in operation by 2019.
CanWEA will be an active participant in consultation processes now being initiated by the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) to inform the design and implementation of the procurement process.
The leadership shown by the Alberta Government on renewable energy has attracted the attention of wind-energy investors from around the world and the wind energy industry is committed to helping the Government of Alberta meet its climate change objectives, while providing significant economic and environmental benefits to the province.
