Clearway signs more than 1.4 GW of wind deals with Siemens Gamesa

By Michelle Froese | June 19, 2019

Clearway Energy Group signs more than 1.4 GW in wind turbine agreements  with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) over the past nine months. SGRE is providing varying wind turbine types to build new projects and to repower existing projects in Oklahoma, Texas, Washington, and West Virginia.

This week, Clearway also announced the financial close of repowering both the Wildorado and Elbow Creek Wind Farms in Texas with SGRE, totaling 283 MW.

“We are excited to continue our partnership with Clearway on these projects, which are a testament to a solid collaboration between both companies in the last year,” said José Antonio Miranda, CEO of Onshore Americas at SGRE. “The repowering of the Wildorado and Elbow Creek projects is a major step in an exciting relationship with Clearway and a demonstration of confidence in Siemens Gamesa.”

This week Clearway also announced the financial close of repowering both the Wildoradoand Elbow Creek Wind Farms in Texas with Siemens Gamesa, which total 283 MW. Wildorado and Elbow Creek were both signed in September 2018.

Additional projects being developed by Clearway Energy Group include: the previously sold Mesquite Star project under construction in Texas, and the proposed Rattlesnake Flat project in Washington. Other projects have yet to be announced.

The company began operations as an independent enterprise last year — formed from the completion of the sale of NRG Energy’s renewables platform and NRG’s controlling interest in NRG Yield to Global Infrastructure Partners.
