Collaboration delivers a materials testing service

By Nic Sharpley | September 11, 2012

Simulation and software developer, MSC Software Corp., recently announced that a collaborative effort with fatigue technology supplier HBM-nCode Products, has resulted in a new fatigue materials testing service that delivers stress-life and strain-life data sets as well as more advanced custom testing services. Accurate material properties are a key product design element when durability and reliability are design drivers. MSC Software’s simulation tools, together with this new testing service, now represent the most advanced capabilities available today, says the company.

Inappropriate or low-quality material properties and inadequate loading specifications are the two most common contributors to poor fatigue design and analysis results when performing fatigue simulation. “A high percentage of design operating failures and warranty costs are due to fatigue life issues,” says Bert Knops, Vice President of Global Services at MSC Software. However, material properties can be properly characterized with the right testing procedures. This new offering will let users improve durability predictions by providing more accurate material data.

The Fatigue Materials Testing Service includes:

  • Quality assurance testing
  • Strain-life fatigue test data curve production
  • Custom fatigue testing
  • Test coupon production
