Company installs 300 climb assist systems in Kansas

Power Climber Wind Climb Assist Power Climber Wind has installed the IBEX 1000 climb assist system at the Flat Ridge II and Flat Ridge Expansion wind farms near Harper, Kansas. The system, which is on nearly 300 turbines, will give technicians control over their climbing speed, which the company says will deliver increased productivity and improved health and safety by reducing the long-term human wear that comes with climbing multiple turbine ladders each day.

The system sets at 50, 75, 100, and 125 lbs (23, 34, 45 and 57 kgs), and provides constant load support in both the up and down directions, regardless of climbing speed. It can be installed in any wind tower with straight-run ladders.

The project is located on a 66,000 acre site. It will employ up to 500 workers during peak construction and have the capacity to produce 419 mega watt electricity, enough to light more than 125,000 homes, the company says.
