Wind turbine manufacturer, Nordex, recently signed a framework contract with Finnish Wealth Management company, Taaleritehdas, for the delivery and installation of up to 111, 2.5-MW turbines. The turbines will be installed at various wind farms in Central, Southern, and Northern Finland from 2013 onwards. With a volume of some 260 MWs, the project exceeds the wind power capacity so far connected to the grid in Finland. After working for under one year in Finland, Nordex has been able to earn one of the largest contracts in its history.
The key factor in Nordex’s favor was the successful work demonstrated on numerous demanding projects in Scandinavia together with its range of low wind speed turbines. The N117 is one of the company’s most efficient turbines for inland locations and offers tower heights up to 141 metres. “This contract marks an important reference for our sustained growth in the high-potential Finnish market,” says Nordex Management Board member Lars Bondo Krogsgaard.
Taaleritehas will finance much of the project by equity raised through a retail investment fund. The company raised equity from over 200 private wind energy investors.
