Contributors to Windpower Engineering July 2011

Marcy Offner, marketing manager for Composites One, has worked in the composites industry for 13 years. She has been instrumental developing the company’s Closed Mold Program and the launch of the Closed Mold Alliance, and supports the Composites One Wind Energy Team. Her industry training includes CCP Gel Coat School, Owens Corning Fiberglass School, and several closed mold process schools.

 

 

Oliver Hirschfelder, Global Wind Energy Director with Capital Safety, works with wind-turbine manufacturers along with construction and service firms worldwide to provide fall protection equipment and services for those who work at heights. Hirschfelder has worked for international firms such as Proctor & Gamble, BIC, and Hailo. In 2003, he relocated from Germany to the U.S. Hirschfelder has worked for the past 8 years in the wind industry.

 

 

Paul Pilotte has more than 20 years experience in technical marketing and development in technical computing, security software, data communications, and test-equipments markets.  He currently is technical marketing manager at MathWorks focusing on MATLAB toolboxes for statistics, optimization, symbolic math, and computational finance.  He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from MIT and an MBA from Babson College.

 

 

Nick Harper, the Moog Applications Manager for Blade Sensing Systems, has extensive knowledge of optical strain monitoring in many types of wind turbines all over the world. Nick has worked closely with major turbine manufacturers in developing methods appropriate for factory installations and for operational units on wind farms. For the past two winters, Nick has been actively involved in commissioning a variety of Rotor Monitoring Systems, including ice-detection systems for turbine manufacturers and operators.

 

 

Nick Verrekia has been with Gamesa Technology Corp. for five years, serving in several different capacities before being named to his current post as director of construction. Before coming to Gamesa, he had 15 years experience in finance, accounting, and processes and controls, all of which was focused on manufacturing and services industries. He holds a BS in Accounting and a MBA in Business Management from Widener University, and he holds a certification in Project Management.

 

 

Fraser McLachlan has 25 years experience in the insurance market and has held a number of senior positions at Aon, Miller Insurance Brokers, and Jardine Lloyd Thompson Limited. For most of McLachlan’s insurance career, he has specialized in the renewable-energy industry and was one of the first to design insurance products geared to the renewables industry across all classes of business. As the Chief Executive for GCube, an insurance services provider dedicated solely to renewable energy projects, he is responsible for driving strategy and new business while overseeing the company’s international development.
