DNV GL, a resource of independent energy experts and certification body, acquired GridLab from 50Hertz’ holding company Eurogrid International. GridLab is a provider of power grid training, seminar, and studies.
After an in-depth due diligence, DNV GL found that GridLab assets will complement the current DNV GL offerings and further strengthen its service portfolio in the power transmission and distribution sector. DNV GL will take over all of GridLab’s employees, currently consisting of 14 permanently employed members of staff, as well as their office and training facilities located in Berlin Schönefeld, Germany.

DNV GL has acquired GridLab. GridLab’s services include seminars for network operation focused on decision making, soft-skill and communication trainings to deal with crisis scenarios such as cyber security risks to energy systems.
“GridLab’s business is an ideal match with our existing portfolio of grid and renewable services,” commented Andreas Schröter, Executive Vice President Central Europe, and Mediterranean at DNV GL, “The energy transition calls for new methods and procedures in operating the energy system. Given the huge complexity that grid operators are faced with now and in the future, we expect an increasing demand for standardized and certified training of grid operator personnel.”
Schröter added: “Beyond this, we are looking forward to intensifying our partnership with 50Hertz by training their staff in GridLab complemented by other DNV GL training and expertise.”
GridLab is a Technical Assessment Center and Technical Development Center which provides services to recruit, assess and develop network and system operation personnel for transmission system operators, distribution system operators and utilities, initial trainings for grid and system management and training for basic switching authorization.
“GridLab has shown an impressive development in recent years in a challenging environment, and I am delighted that GridLab has found a new, strong partner,” said Dirk Biermann, 50Hertz Managing Director Markets and Systems Operations.
Grid Lab’s services include seminars for network operation focused on decision making, soft-skill and communication trainings to deal with crisis scenarios such as cyber security risks to energy systems. GridLab also provides an additional multitude of network planning and development services on all network levels and for renewable as well as traditional generation utilities.
