DNV GL, the world’s largest resource of independent energy experts and certification body, has named Edward Cuoco as Vice President for its Market and Policy Development (MPD) group.
The selection of Cuoco — whose expertise combines data science, change and risk management, as well as energy wholesale and retail markets experience — comes as energy stakeholders across the Americas face a changing landscape marked by increasingly complex business challenges.
“We see utilities, energy marketers, system operators and other energy stakeholders looking for trusted advisory services to guide their decisions. Cuoco brings this powerful combination of analytical skills and leadership to meet those needs,” said Carole Barbeau, President of DNV GL’s Energy Advisory, Americas.
Cuoco will focus on expanding the MPD group’s services to meet the growing needs of the Americas markets. He will form the strategic vision for the group and oversee the delivery of consulting services to ISOs/RTOs, utilities and independent power providers (IPPs), wholesale and retail energy professionals and other stakeholders.
Edward joins DNV GL from The Weather Company (an IBM business) where as director of data science and advanced analytics, he built global product strategies for advanced analytics platforms and services. Prior to joining The Weather Company, he was director of data science at Enernoc, an energy management SaaS provider.
Over the past two decades, he has served in leadership positions in the Energy sector in the U.S. and Europe, including practice lead for Energy Trading and Risk Management at Accenture Benelux, manager of processes and systems for Essent Energie Trading in The Netherlands, and as an account leader for Sapient’s Energy practice in the U.S. and Europe.
“Markets across the U.S. are poised to benefit from applied analytics like market simulation and analysis and other tools,” Cuoco said. “I hope to expand the positive impact that DNV GL can have as the strategic advisor to stakeholders across the energy value chain looking to manage assets, plan systems, navigate changing markets, and attain long-term compliance, sustainability and business success.”
Cuoco is located in DNV GL’s Burlington, Massachusetts office in the U.S.
