Lubricant specialist, Evonik, was at the American Wind Energy Association’s (AWEA) WINDPOWER 2015 Conference & Exhibition last week, addressing wind turbine gear oil equipment challenges with Formulation 8175, a synthetic wind turbine gear oil.
“Evonik’s Formulation 8175 addresses many needs in the wind turbine market including durability, energy efficiency, and extended service life,” shared Aidan Rose, Evonik’s Global Business Director of Industrial and Gear oils. “One essential element in the formulation is VISCOBASE, which provides necessary film strength for gear protection under extreme loads.”
During the WINDPOWER show, Evonik presented a technical discussion entitled: NUFLUX technology: An economic way to ensure gearbox longevity. The components of NUFLUX technology’s Formulation 8175 include Evonik’s VISCOBASE synthetic base fluid, providing film strength for gear protection and dependable lubricity under exacting operating conditions.
Formulation 8175 was tested on the FZG gear test rig, one of the industry’s most respected and rigorous tests used to determine and predict field performance. When put to the test, Formulation 8175 provided the highest level of gear protection from micropitting, running at lower temperatures than mineral oil and PAO/ester formulations.
