Filtertechnik honored for its advanced digital-imaging system for gear oil analysis

Particle Pal Pro: Picture of Health is a portable oil analysis kit that provides ISO Cleanliness readings, water content, and remaining life of virtually any gear oil. The software has a built-in database of over 500 oils as a reference when determining the remaining life.

Filtertechnik, a manufacturer and supplier of quality filtration systems for oils and process fluids, recently won the ‘On the Spot Oil Analysis’ category at the “Wind Innovators Awards.” These awards honor pioneering companies that have produced innovative products that make a positive contribution to the wind-power market.

The new Particle Pal Pro stood out from the competition because of its innovative features, specifically developed for the wind market. Filtertechnik says it adopted breakthrough digital-imaging technology to measure particle counts in highly viscous gear oils.

This new technology overcomes some of the obstacles of conventional laser counters used in particle counting, such as recognizing air bubbles and eliminating them from the counts. The Particle Pal Pro also provides users with a broader count spectrum and root-cause analysis. It does so by recognizing the shape of particles and categorizing them into “fatigue,” “sliding,” or “cutting wear” particles.

The ability to add new oils to the software is also included.

This new digital-imaging counter, combined with water content and oil condition sensors helps engineers better understand immediately the health and remaining life of their oils.  Filtertechnik also developed a new stepper motor pump that can handle oils up to 3,000cst.

“We believe the product we’ve developed for the Wind Market will help Engineers make informed choices on the spot rather than waiting weeks for lab reports,” said Richard Price, Managing Director of Filtertechnik. “The breakthrough technology allows on the spot oil analysis no matter the viscosity of the oil or the quantity of air present.”
