Gamesa to build a 130-MW wind farm in Mexico under a turnkey arrangement

Gamesa plans to install 65 of its G114-2.0 MW turbines at the La Bufa wind farm in Mexico.

Gamesa, a technological leader in the worldwide wind industry, has received an order from developers Mexico Power Group and First Reserve for the turnkey construction of La Bufa, a 130-MW wind farm in Mexico, located in the state of Zacatecas, in Central Mexico.

The company will install 65 of its G114-2.0 MW turbines. Given the fact that it is a turnkey contract, Gamesa will handle all of the infrastructure needed to install and operate the project.

The turbines are slated for delivery in 2016, with commissioning to be completed the same year. The agreement also encompasses the provision of the related operation and maintenance services over the long term.

The power generated by the wind farm will be supplied exclusively to Volkswagen’s factories in the cities of Puebla and Silao.

Ever since it began to do business in Mexico back in 1999, Gamesa has been very active in its capacity as OEM, having installed over 1,700 MW, and as wind-farm developer, with more than 700 MW complete and a sizeable pipeline at various stages of development.

Gamesa has also recently announced its plans to build a wind tower factory through Windar Renovables, the joint venture with the Daniel Alonso Group. The centre will be located in the state of Tamaulipas and will have enough capacity to manufacture 500 MW per year. The construction work is scheduled to begin in December and the factory should be up and running by the end of 2016.
