GE’s Haliade wind turbines are also used in the first U.S. offshore wind farm, Block Island Wind off the coast of Rhode Island.
GE Renewable Energy says it has successfully installed the first of three GE Haliade 150, 6-MW offshore wind turbines for the Fujian Xinghua Gulf demo project.
This is a milestone for GE, which has become the only offshore wind supplier to have wind turbines in Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
In March 2017, GE Renewable Energy was selected by Chinese Fuqing Haixia Electricity Generation Company (a joint venture between China Three Gorges and Fujian Energy) to deliver three Haliade of its 150, 6-MW offshore wind turbines to the Fujian Xinghua Gulf demo project.
GE is one of several wind-turbine suppliers participating in the 73-MW wind-farm project, which is capable providing enough power to satisfy more than 20,000 households in the region.
The three nacelles and generators where manufactured at GE’s Offshore Wind facility in Saint-Nazaire (France), whereas towers and blades where manufactured locally in Chengxi and Denmark respectively.
The company said it will move forward with the installation of the next two wind turbines over the few days, while its local teams start the commissioning works.
