Gexa to fully power its new residential electricity plans with wind & solar

By Michelle Froese | August 20, 2019

Gexa Energy, a retail electricity provider in Texas, announced that all of its new Gexa Energy residential plans will be powered by 100% renewable energy — at no additional cost to customers.

As part of NextEra Energy Resources, the world’s largest generator of wind and solar energy, Gexa Energy is committed to providing green energy plans to customers and supporting the development of renewable energy resources.

“We’re dedicated to the lives of Texans, and with our plans backed by 100% renewable energy, customers don’t have to choose between caring for the environment and low cost,” said Brian Landrum, president of Gexa Energy. “Consumer desire for clean energy is on the rise, and we offer plans that meet this growing need at no additional cost.”

Gexa Energy is a wholly owned subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources, which operates more than 17,000 MW of wind and solar generation in North America. The company’s investment totals more than $20 billion in clean, renewable technologies.

“As part of NextEra Energy Resources, the world’s largest generator of wind and solar energy, our team is inspired by the power of green energy,” continued Landrum. “The time has come to make plans that use 100% renewable energy available to all of our new customers at no additional cost. It’s the right thing to do.”

Across the U.S., the conversation about clean energy continues to heat up as consumers become savvier about their energy options. The majority of consumers expect renewable sources to increasingly support their energy needs, with 70% of Americans surveyed by Consumer Reports agreeing that “they expect electricity generation to become cleaner over time.”

Gexa provides green plans through the purchase and retirement of renewable energy credits, or RECs, from Texas wind and solar farms matching the amount of electricity its customers use.
