To spur young scientists to take up the challenge of improving wind power, GL Garrad Hassan would like to judge the answer to several questions it poses, such as: How can the cost of renewable energy projects be reduced? What can be done to reduce transmission losses, so more of the energy generated by offshore wind plants reaches consumers? Where are the opportunities to make wind turbines more efficient?
To encourage answering such questions, GL Garrad Hassan has created the “Global Award in Renewable Energy.” It will honor innovative ideas and new technical approaches in research and development for the renewable energy industry.
The “GL Garrad Hassan Global Award in Renewable Energy” will be presented for a PhD thesis which best embodies this year’s theme: “Innovation and cost saving.” The winner will be awarded a cash prize of €5,000, about $6,500.
But you better hustle. Submissions must be received by 30 November 2012. The winner will be notified at the end of January 2013.
