I recently read a blog that did a very nice job of outlining the successes and hurdles of U.S. offshore wind so far. The American Progress team notes…
Successes:
Cape Wind received its final permits
Obama initiative designated wind energy areas off the Atlantic Coast and is pursuing leases
New Jersey, Texas and Ohio have projects in planning and permitting stages
Public opinion is for wind and solar rather than nuclear
Hurdles:
DOE says Cape Wind isn’t eligable for a loan guarantee
NRG Bluewater Wind backs out of power-purchase agreement with Delmarva Power because of insufficient investment interest
saying the answer lies in Congress’s creation of a loan guarantee program and support of tax credit to reassure investors.
Do you think 2012 is the year Congress finally listens?
