The Production Tax Credit extention for wind is a hot topic in the industry recently. In fact, it’s more than just a prominant issue, the success and future of the entire wind energy industry is in jeapordy.
The industry pushed hard for an extention before the end of last year. Unfortuanately, Congress didn’t come through and so now a bipartisan group of Sentators are pushing for an extention in the first quarter of 2012. But they aren’t the only ones working to get the PTC passed.
Gov. Sam Brownback (R-Kansas) has held a press conference with John Graham, head of BP Wind Energy, and other supporters of extending the Production Tax Credit. Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin (R) wrote members of the Congressional conference committee that the credit needs to be extended immediately to create certainty because developers and manufacturers are canceling their plans for 2013. One Illinois wind energy manufacturer also talked about the impact on his company on The Hill. Even big companies are getting involved such as Nike, Staples, Starbucks, Campbell Soup, and Yahoo.
But what have you done? The wind industry needs everyone’s support if it is to succeed. Go to AWEA.org to take action today.
