Laminated sheets protect blades against leading edge erosion

By Paul Dvorak | October 13, 2014

Blade edge protectors from IER Fujikura come with adhesive and let turbines immediately return to work.

Blade edge protectors from IER Fujikura are put on this way.

Material developer IER Fujikura now offers for wind-turbine blades, a highly abrasion-resistant rubber sheet with a layer of woven fabric for high durability. The material has been working for three years on a 1.5 MW wind turbine and recent inspection shows no wear on the blades. Installation requires no adhesive or edge sealant, and the turbine can return to service immediately after the application.
