MAKE Consulting report says long-term PTC program charts new territory for the U.S. market

By Paul Dvorak | January 12, 2016

Make consultingA Flash Note from Make Consulting examines the upside from the long-term extension of the federal PTC on the U.S. wind power market outlook from 2016 to 2021.

It analyses the effect of the long-term PTC phase-out on wind power developers as well as power purchasers in the utility and C&I segments, highlighting the upside and timing of future wind power growth.

The Flash Note also discusses how changing market dynamics will impact turbine OEM strategies and turbine technology.

Key points:

  • The benefits of a stable long-term policy cannot be overstated in a U.S. market accustomed to boom or bust policy cycles.
  • Utilities will provide the bulk of PPA demand as they look ahead to coal retirements and rollout of the Clean Power Plan.
  • Turbine OEM competition intensifies with opportunities for stable growth and time to introduce new technology before PTC phases down.
