Manufacturer produces it own power with two turbines

By Paul Dvorak | April 15, 2011

Two 364-ft. tall wind turbines cost more than $7 million and began operation at the Zotos factory in Geneva, NY in early 2011. The company manufacturers consumer products.

Zotos International has installed two wind turbines at its Geneva-NY-based plant, as part of a sustainability program. With about 6.5 million kWh of electricity produced annually, the wind turbines will provide more than 60% of the company’s energy requirements. The Zotos Wind Project is one of the top on-site wind projects currently being undertaken by a manufacturing company in the United States, according to the American Wind Energy Association. Zotos’ energy goal is to utilize 100% renewable energy by 2012.

The company is working with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to cover about 30% of the cost. The Zotos plant, 670,000 ft2, is home to more than 500 employees with a production capacity of 100 million units annually.
