MidAmerican and Mortenson partner on 170-MW Beaver Creek project as part of Wind XI expansion

By Michelle Froese | August 10, 2017

The 170-MW Beaver Creek wind farm is expected to create well over 100 construction jobs in Iowa, and is part of the Wind XI expansion project.

MidAmerican Energy has selected renewable energy contractor Mortenson Construction to build the 170-MW Beaver Creek wind farm in Iowa. It represents Mortenson’s 13th wind project for the utility.

Beaver Creek wind farm is part of MidAmerican Energy’s Wind XI expansion, which will add 2,000 MW of wind-generation capacity in the state.

“We are pleased to be part of Iowa’s leadership in wind energy. It was in Iowa where we entered the wind energy market in 1995 by erecting our first turbine near Adair,” said Tim Maag, VP and General Manager of Mortenson’s Wind Energy Group.

Mortenson has built 55% of all the wind power in Iowa, and the company is now part of the largest economic development investment in the state’s history.

The Beaver Creek wind farm is being constructed across Greene and Boone counties near the town of Grand Junction, Iowa, and will consist of 85 turbines. Vestas will provide the V110 turbines that are scheduled for delivery this month and are expected to be in-service December 2017. The Beaver Creek wind farm is expected to create 150 temporary construction jobs.
