ZF Services, LLC, the strategic aftermarket business unit of ZF Friedrichshafen AG, is nearing the completion of an expansion of its wind service operations.
With the expected completion of the 2.5-MW test bench in March, ZF Services, LLC is achieving all the major milestones of finishing the project on time. ZF Services was awarded a grant of $1.6 million from the state of Illinois to help fund the expansion in June of 2011.
The expansion project has resulted in 1015 cubic yards of the removal of dirt and demolished concrete, installation of 38 tons of rebar, and 510 cubic yards of new concrete poured all to support the torque loads of the new test bench, which is planned to start installation in February.
To support the new test bench, ZF Services is also in the installation process of a new steel structure to support the 30-ton crane for transporting gearboxes across the workshop area. Completion of all projects is expected in time to allow for customer visits during the AWEA Windpower 2013 in Chicago.
