By Windpower Engineering | March 18, 2011

LUFFT USA of Santa Barbara, CA announced that the addition of MODBUS-RTU and MODBUS- ASCII to its list of communication standards making it one of the most flexible wind and weather assessment products on the market today. Lufft USA announced that its complete ‘WS’ line of weather stations are now available with MODBUS data protocol in addition to SDI12, ASCII, UMB, NMEA telegram and Analog.

The WS Family of sensors includes the WS200, WS300, WS301, WS400, WS500, WS600, VENTUS and V200A. The robust and ice resistant VENTUS and V200A also have the option to operate using analog signal.

Building atumation and using met data in SCADA control are examples where MODBUS protocol is often applied to read external sensors. The sensor is able to communicate directly with a PLC reducing the need for additional hardware.
