Moventas’ 3-MW Exceed gearboxes set for delivery to Korean offshore wind farm

By Michelle Froese | April 26, 2017

Moventas’ Exceed gearboxes provide 20% more torque density with 10 % less size. Testing and verification showed that torque density improvement was even more significant than expected, exceeding 140 Nm/kg.

Moventas and Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction have agreed on the Exceed deliveries to an offshore wind farm in South Korea. Exceed series is a gearbox platform that provides a competitive edge for a wind-turbine manufacturer by lowering the LCoE of turbines with light weight and high torque density.

Doosan is an existing customer for Moventas Exceed high-torque density 3-MW gearboxes. The recently entered agreement concerns production and delivery of the Exceed gearboxes to the offshore wind farm by the end of second quarter in 2018.

“We are delighted to see Doosan order more Exceed for their 3-MW turbine as a continuation to our strong relationship,” said Pedro Figueiras, Moventas Senior Vice President.

Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction is a Doosan subsidiary, which owns core technologies and ongoing performance with the three core components of the power generation business, including boilers, turbines, and generators. Doosan was the first in Korea to develop the 3-MW wind power generation systems for onshore and offshore sites
