Moventas provides an update on its 3 MW Exceed gearbox

By Paul Dvorak | December 2, 2014

The Exceed prototype assembly is proceeding in the developer’s Jyväskylä factory. As a result of the design work to make Exceed as lightweight and small as possible, the outer diameter of this helical stage is almost as small as those of kilowatt class gearboxes, although this the Exceed is rated at 3 MW+.

Moventas A look inside the Exceed

In addition to its small size and weight, this compact housing is also well behaved in terms of noise and resonance. The design provides competitive edge by lowering the LCoE of wind turbines with

  • 20% more torque density
  • 10% smaller size
  • 100% proven technology

New design from the gearbox pioneer with more than 30 years of experience in introducing innovations to the industry. Platform approach enables adaptability, scalability and cost efficiency. Every design verified by simulation and testing. Good video here: http://www.moventas.com/contact/media-contacts-and-downloads/videos/
