Moxa launches industrial EtherNet/IP & PROFINET-enabled managed Ethernet switches

Moxa, a developer of hardened networking, communication and computing solutions, has unveiled two new series of EtherNet/IP and Profinet -enabled managed Ethernet switches engineered to provide advanced efficiency for industrial networks. Pre-configured for plug and play simplicity, the new EDS-405A/408A-EIP and EDS-405A/408A-PN switches deliver an easy, cost-effective way of integrating legacy networks, eliminating the need for additional configurations and modifications, and reducing deployment time.

“If you are an engineer who is used to working with EtherNet/IP or Profinet devices, installing these switches on your network will be second nature to you,” according to Jim Toepper, product manager for Moxa.

Ready-to-use Turbo Ring and Turbo Chain network redundancy technologies assure that if a connection failure occurs, the switches will enable fast network recovery under 20ms (with 250 switch loads) for high network reliability. Fast booting time in under 10s ensure system availability and minimizes maintenance costs on the factory floor.

With EtherNet/IP embedded, the EDS-405A/408A-EIP switches are visible with custom faceplates in FactoryTalk View industrial management software, for greater operational and network visibility in factory automation HMIs. AOIs and EDS Files are available for all Moxa switch models to ensure a truly integrated switch installation.

With embedded Profinet, the EDS-405A/408A-PN switches can be easily integrated into the Simatic Step 7 engineering tool. It is more convenient for automation engineers to configure through Step 7 and monitor with automation HMIs. GSD files (which also includes a faceplate) are available for all Moxa switch models to ensure a truly integrated switch installation for Siemens architecture.

Moxa EDS-405A/408A-EIP and EDS-405A/408A-PN switches are available in 5 or 8-port DIN-rail mount designs. Both provide rugged performance in the harsh environments often found at the edge of an industrial network. They also support a variety of useful management functions to accommodate just about any application that requires an Ethernet switch, such as IGMP snooping, IEEE 802.1Q VLAN, QoS, port mirroring, SNMP, bandwidth management, and warning by email or relay.

The company offers a wide range of industrial managed switches that support EtherNet/IP communication for industrial automation applications, including 10GbE industrial core switches (ICS series), industrial high-port-density Ethernet switches (IKS series, EDS-700 series), and industrial compact Ethernet switches (EDS-600/500/400 series). With such a broad selection, users are able to choose the switch that is best-suited for their application requirements, with the added benefit of seamless interoperability for industrial EtherNet/IP systems.
