New report: The Top 100 Power People in Wind 2016

By Michelle Froese | November 9, 2016

top-100-power-people-2016-coverNow in its fifth year, the Top 100 Power People is A Word About Wind‘s annual look at the most influential individuals in the wind industry. The report identifies and ranks the most influential individuals within the global wind energy sector, and provides an insight into the investment and political trends that have shaped the market over the past 12 months.

And what a year it has been! The crashing stock market in China; the UK’s vote to leave the European Union; and a highly contested U.S. presidential election. These are just some of the major political and macro-economic stories that have rocked the business world this year.

Through it all, the wind sector has kept moving forward. The five-year extension of the Production Tax Credit in the U.S. has given firms in that key market the confidence to invest while, in Europe, the move towards competitive auctions has led to a short-term boom in Germany.

Despite the political upheaval in the UK, the prospects for the world’s leading offshore market are strong too. The continued success of the sector in Europe, North America, Asia, and beyond is testament to the people that work within it. The Top 100 Power People looks at the 100 of those who are the seen as the most influential.

On top of that, the report contains interviews with two industry big-hitters: Samuel Leupold, head of wind at DONG Energy, who has played a key role in helping drive down the cost of offshore wind; and Ian Mays, the former chief executive at RES Group and a bona fide wind industry star who, despite his retirement last month, is passionate about where the sector goes next – and has shared these views with A Word About Wind.
