Marine and engineering consultancy, LOC Group, announced the creation of LOC Renewables, a focused team of consultants dedicated to the offshore renewable energy sector. LOC Renewables will be led by Dr RV Ahilan, Group Director of Renewables Advisory & Energy Technology.
“As the offshore renewables industry has grown, LOC Group has developed and honed our skills to support innovations in this pioneering industry,” said Ahilan.
“As UK and European expertise in this area spreads to new markets, LOC Renewables is determined to continue investing in the skills, knowledge, and technologies needed to deliver the best marine and engineering consultancy for our offshore renewable energy partners,” he added.
Alongside Ahilan, LOC Renewables will have dedicated leads located in offices in London, Exeter, Aberdeen, Paris, New York, Singapore and Shanghai, providing consultancy services including design, engineering, and marine warranty survey to offshore renewable energy clients across Europe, the Americas, and Asia.
“LOC has been providing services to clients working in the offshore renewables space for more than 15 years, delivering services to more than two-thirds Europe’s offshore wind farms,” said Andrew Squire, Group Chief Executive. “With our increasing expertise in the sector, we have chosen to formalize our commitment to offshore renewable energy, and bring our unique combination of practical operations experience and cutting edge offshore engineering expertise to bear, with the creation of LOC Renewables.”
The LOC Renewables team will be celebrating the launch of this new initiative at the Offshore Wind Energy 2017 conference. LOC Renewables experts will be speaking on two highly anticipated panels at the event. Ahilan will join Recharge’s Thought Leader Roundtable on June 5, to discuss the path to commercialization for floating offshore wind power.
On June 6, Captain Mike Frampton will speak to jack-up barge operators about the challenges involved in installing floating wind turbines.
LOC Renewables’ recent experience includes a project win for the Seoul office, which has been retained by Swiss Re and Korea Offshore Wind Power to provide marine warranty on the 60-MW test phase of the Southwest Offshore Wind farm Project in Korea. LOC France has also won tenders recently to carry out marine warranty survey services to the country’s very first offshore wind farms.
In the UK, LOC Group provided marine warranty survey services during the installation phase of the 576-MW RWE-owned Gwynt y Mor windfarm, overseeing procedures for the transportation and installation of the turbines and cables.
