#NEWENERGY’s global startup fest chooses world’s TOP 100 clean tech startups

The international jury panel of #NEWENERGY global startup fest (experts from the Silicon Valley, Tel Aviv University, British Petroleum, Dutch and French business accelerators and the Asian Development Bank) have selected the world’s TOP 100 startups in the field of alternative energy and “green economy “.  These TOP 100 will present their companies on the main stage of the contest on 27 October in Astana and will compete for the chance to participate in  EXPO-2017.

The top hundred includes startups from 36 countries: Kazakhstan, the USA, Norway, Great Britain, Denmark, Germany, France, Austria, the Netherlands, Turkey, Finland, India, Moldova, Portugal, Australia, Ireland, Bulgaria, Malaysia, Estonia, Russia, Pakistan, Switzerland, Latvia, China, Italy, Jordan, Egypt, Poland, Ukraine, Greece, Singapore, Azerbaijan, Serbia, Spain and Iceland.

Oren Simanian (founder of StarTau, Entrepreneurship Center at Tel Aviv University), the member of the #NEWENERGY expert panel says: «I can`t recall the time when we have seen so many clean tech startups during such a short period. It was a difficult task for the experts to choose the best of the best, but what I can say for sure – it was definitely interesting and challenging for all of us».

#NEWENERGY team have got 780 applications from the companies that represent five continents and over 50 countries – from Iceland and Russia to South Africa, from the USA to Indonesia and Australia. More than a half of the applications came from the startups that implement projects in the field of renewable and alternative energy sources (52%), as well as in following categories: smart cities and sustainable infrastructure (18%), energy and the environment (8%), new sources of energy ( 6%), water management (6%) and others.

The contest is organized with the support of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan. More than two thousands of international guests will visit #NEWENERGY global startup fest: representatives of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, international investment and venture funds, business angels, leading energy companies of the country, experts and representatives of international organizations.

The Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan is the central executive body of the Republic of Kazakhstan that conducts formation of the state policy, coordination of the management process in the areas of oil&gas and petrochemicals industries, and transportation of raw hydrocarbons.

JSC «IACOG» is competent authority of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan on accumulation, processing and provision of timely information on the domestic market of oil products, all oil and gas, hydrocarbon processing and transporting raw materials companies in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
