Next-gen yaw drive smaller, lighter than conventional

By Kathie Zipp | March 15, 2012

The 712T4U yaw control, a multistage planetary gearmotor, is for wind turbines from 1.5 to 3.5 MW, onshore and offshore applications. Its advantages are smaller dimensions with the same performance (20% height reduction vs. current units) and weight 8% less than current designs. The drives boasts an 11% complexity reduction with fewer components and easier installation. Maintenance also simplifies with longer service intervals (10 years). A few key characteristics include a rated dynamic torque of 45,000 Nm, a peak static torque of 110,000 Nm, and reduction ratios from 600 to 1,600.
