Clean Line Energy announced that NextEra Energy Resources has acquired Plains and Eastern Clean Line Oklahoma, and all of the assets for the Plains & Eastern Clean Line transmission project in Oklahoma. This transaction will continue the Plains & Eastern project’s forward momentum, and install a new sponsor to a transmission solution to the burgeoning wind sector in Oklahoma and the Southwest Power Pool.

The Plains & Eastern Clean Line transmission project will connect 4,000 megawatts of clean energy generation from western Oklahoma, southwest Kansas, and the Texas Panhandle with utilities and customers in Tennessee, Arkansas, and other markets in the Mid-South and Southeast, areas that lack access to low-cost, renewable power.
The Plains & Eastern Clean Line has been under development in Oklahoma for eight years and enjoys support from a wide variety of organizations and associations including potential customers, state and county officials, landowners, local and regional economic development organizations, service providers, and manufacturers across Oklahoma.
The project underwent a thorough environmental review with substantial stakeholder input and received the regulatory approvals and major environmental permits necessary for construction.
Clean Line Energy has acquired a significant portion of the right-of-way necessary to construct the project. Under the agreement with NextEra Energy Resources, Clean Line Energy retains project assets east of Oklahoma, and NextEra Energy Resources owns only the project assets in the state of Oklahoma.
NextEra Energy Resources is the largest generator of energy from the wind and sun globally, and with its affiliates, is also the largest owner of wind generation in Oklahoma with 1.7 GW of operating capacity in the state.
