In the latest round of tenders on the Chilean energy market Acciona Energia, a close partner of the manufacturer, has been awarded the contract to feed some 500 GWh of electricity into the grid per annum.
The project is set in the region of La Araucania, and will feed green electricity into the Chilean grid at the latest at the beginning of 2022. Further details on the start of construction work and the project will depend on the outcome of the ongoing negotiations.
Chile is currently the fastest growing wind market in Latin America. The sector expects to increase in capacity by an average of around 350 MW a year until 2025. In the latest round of tenders a total of 12,430 GWh a year of electricity is being auctioned for the generation period from 2022 to 2042. This volume of energy will cover around 30% of the electricity demand anticipated for Chile for 2021.
Acciona Energia has been operating very successfully on the Chilean market for years. The company has already won a contract in the previous bidding round for 600 GWh per annum for the generation period from 2018 to 2032.
As soon as the supply contracts still pending have been signed and project finance has been secured, the manufacturer will publish detailed information on the future order receipt. Apart from Acciona Energia, other developers to whom the Nordex Group maintains excellent relationships have obtained awards for converted more than 1.000 MW of wind energy for the same generation period.
