Nordex supplying N117s to Ireland’s Element Power for a 36-MW wind farm

The Generation Gamma turbine comprises the N90/2500, N100/2500 and the N117/2400, which is one of the most efficient onshore turbines. To date, over 2,200 have been produced. Generation Delta is the fourth generation of its multi-megawatt platform (N100/3300, N117/3000).

Nordex Group client, project developer Element Power, has ordered 15 Nordex N117/2400 turbines for its Monaincha wind farm. In addition, Element Power and wind farm owner, private-equity investor BlackRock, have signed a 10-yr service contract. “This marks the beginning of what will hopefully be successful relations with Element Power and constitutes a further sales success for this wind turbine in Europe,” says Nordex Board member Lars Bondo Krogsgaard.

The company says its N117/2400 is one of the most efficient turbines for lower-wind speed locations. With a large 117-m rotor diameter, it achieves an above-average capacity factor of over 35%. Work on installing the wind farm in the flatlands close to the town of Roscrea commenced April 2013. Krogsgaard: “Including the projects under development, Nordex will soon have a capacity of 427 MW in Ireland. This impressive figure confirms the wisdom of our decision to establish a subsidiary in Ireland in 2010.”
