A consortium constituting of international engineering and operations support services contractor ODE (an integral part of the DORIS Group, and DORIS Engineering), has been awarded Owners Engineer contracts covering the wind-turbine generator installation and marine construction management for the Éoliennes en mer Dieppe et Le Tréport and the Iles d’Yeu et de Noirmoutier wind farms off the Normandy and Pays-de-la-Loire coasts.
These latest Owners Engineer roles strengthen DORIS Group position as a technical service provider in offshore wind, and follow from recent roles in the U.S. Taiwan.
The Éoliennes en mer Iles d’Yeu and Noirmoutier consortium brings together Engie, EDP Renewables, and Caisse des Dépôts to develop these projects.
The Dieppe et Le Tréport offshore wind farm is located 16 km from Dieppe and 15 km from Tréport, in water depth ranging from 5 to 25 meters. The Iles d’Yeu et de Noirmoutier offshore wind farm project is located 11.6 km from the island of Yeu and 16.5 km from Noirmoutier, in water depths varying from 17 to 35 meters.
Each project will use 62 of the Adwen 8-MW turbines, with a total capacity of 496 MW. The combined projects are expected to produce on average 4000 GWh per year, which represents an annual electricity consumption of approx. 1.6 million people, or roughly equivalent to the population of Marseille.
“This latest award recognizes DORIS Group experience and expertise in the design and implementation of major marine based offshore energy projects, in particular, with respect to renewables and offshore wind,” said ODE Regional Director, Jeff Barnes. “We are delighted to have been selected to fulfill the role of Owners Engineer for these two projects. This builds on similar work undertaken across Europe, in Taiwan, and in the United States, and firmly establishes DORIS Group in the emerging French offshore wind market.”
ODE brings a strong track record of successfully delivering support and innovative solutions to international offshore wind developments. The contract will see ODE provide engineering and project management support for thewind-turbine generator installation and marine construction management from ODE’s offices in central London and from the DORIS Group headquarters in Paris.
“This award will strengthen ODE’s continued involvement in the marine renewables sector internationally, and in coordination with our parent company, DORIS Engineering, in Paris,” added Barnes. “As a company group, we ensure cross-fertilization between projects and work activities, creating mutual benefits and collaboration opportunities in order to apply lessons learned.”
Construction and installation of Dieppe et Le Tréport and Iles d’Yeu et de Noirmoutier wind farms will begin in 2019 and commissioning is expected in 2021, with the wind farm remaining in operation until 2041.
