The Lovejoy drop in replacement couplings for GE and Vestas wind turbines provide a bolted electrical-isolation joint that prevents stray or eddy currents from damaging gearbox bearings. The design also eliminates the bonded joints that can be prone to low-temperature delamination.
In addition, the design includes an anti-flail feature to confine the center member in the event of a failure. The feature was first used by the petrochemical industry to eliminate auxiliary-equipment damage in the case of a drivetrain issue. The couplings will interface with existing gearbox and generator hubs.
