Palfinger Marine wins contract for 66 PSM 400 cranes for offshore turbines

By Paul Dvorak | October 6, 2016

With a project capacity of 396 MW and a turbine capacity of 6 MW, Merkur Offshore is one of the biggest German wind farms. It is located 45 km from Borkum in the North Sea and is being built and operated by Merkur Offshore GmbH. The turbines will be supplied by GE Renewable Energy (Alstom) and installed by DEME. For these wind turbines, Palfinger Marine has signed a contract for 66 PSM 400 stiff boom cranes with Alstom Wind France SAS. The build-up will be finalised in 2019.

The electro-hydraulic stiff boom cranes are DNV GL approved and fitted with the latest and most innovative safety devices.

Combining technical product expertise and the world’s largest renewable energy source, the wind, this major contract marks a huge success in the story of marine company’s Wind Crane department. The electro-hydraulic stiff boom cranes are DNV GL approved and fitted with the latest and innovative safety devices. A radio remote control gives the operator full control from all positions when operating the crane. Proven technology, a maintenance-friendly and reliable design and high-quality workmanship: The PSM crane series satisfies all these requirements in the wind business.

All cranes will be finally handed over and mounted by September 2017.
