Siemens Industryand Eastern Wind Power, a green energy design and development firm based in Cambridge, Mass., invited reporters to see their 50-kW vertical-axis wind turbine (VAWT). Eastern Wind Power designed the turbine, named Sky Farm, while Siemens provided the inverter. Here, employees of Siemens and Eastern Wind Power stand with a production model. The turbine consists of three vertical blades, each 20 ft. long, and six horizontal struts — two supports per blade. Total swept area is 36 square meters.
